With your support & donations we can accomplish the following…
- Documentary: The If Project is a documentary featuring the lives of prisoners at Washington Corrections Center for Women. The inmates will reveal themselves to the audience in an unprecedented manner. They do not look like the hardened criminals the media has presented to us in the past, but rather they look like us. Using the “If” question as the impetus, the women deeply explore their past, looking for answers as to what led them to become incarcerated.
- Educational: An educational multi-platform DVD and companion curriculum will be used as a teaching tool for youth and parents alike. We will create film pieces targeting specific topics, such as: Peer pressure, drugs & alcohol, gangs, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, communication & asking for help, etc. We will target a nationwide distribution for public schools, community centers, juvenile detention facilities and national organizations working with youth.
- Publishing: A photo book including selected inmates’ original writings coupled with their portrait. A companion volume of books publishing all collected essays.
- Exhibits: A traveling exhibit examining the issues of incarceration focused on what we as a society can do to change it. The exhibit will include portraits, film clips and panel discussions.
